Proven Performance Through Rigorous Testing
At Round 2 POS, we pride ourselves on delivering reliable, lightning-fast point-of-sale solutions. The Stress Lab is our independent performance testing initiative designed to push the limits of POS systems under real-world conditions. By simulating demanding scenarios, we ensure that every component of our Linux-based system meets the highest standards for speed, reliability, and scalability. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to innovation and transparency, providing valuable insights for businesses and vendors alike.
Why Stress Lab Matters?
When we created the Stress Lab, we aimed to accomplish three key objectives:
- Thorough Stress Testing: Identify potential bugs and optimize performance in a controlled lab environment, not at the expense of our customers.
- Linux Superiority: Showcase the unmatched speed and stability of Linux-based POS systems compared to Windows, iOS, and Android solutions.
- Informed Decision-Making: Provide vendors and business owners with reliable performance data for commonly used POS terminals.
These goals ensure that Round 2 POS delivers cutting-edge technology while empowering businesses with data-driven decisions.
Methodology: Real-World Challenges, Real Results
To replicate a typical business environment, we set up 24 POS clients connected to a Dell Optiplex 5000 server (Intel i7-12700K, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD). Each terminal performed a “beer, beer, cash” loop—ringing up items, completing cash transactions, and repeating—for 24 hours nonstop. This rigorous testing evaluated critical hardware aspects such as:
- CPU and motherboard speed
- Network throughput
- Hard drive performance
- Video rendering during transactions
The results were groundbreaking, showcasing not only Linux’s superior efficiency but also surprising insights into hardware performance.
2024 Results: Performance Redefined
The test revealed that older hardware can outperform newer models, proving that Round 2 POS optimizes resources to deliver exceptional results without costly upgrades. Highlights include:
- Top Performer: The HP RP7 7800, a model discontinued in 2017, completed 45,891 transactions, outperforming newer terminals.
- Scalable Server: The Dell server maintained under 3% CPU utilization, indicating its capacity to handle twice the workload seamlessly.
- Linux Excellence: Linux’s efficiency allowed terminals to deliver consistent performance, making Round 2 POS a clear choice for reliability.
